?What are the consequences of Sana’a’s decision to close the Bab al-Mandab Strait to Israeli ships

Yemen Eco | Report:

Experts and researchers confirmed that the announcement by the leader of Ansar Allah, Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, to close the Bab al-Mandab Strait to Israeli ships, imposed a new strategic equation that will have a major impact on the ragging battle between the Israeli army and the Palestinian Islamic Resistance movement, Hamas, and may put significant pressure on the influential global powers to correct its biased position towards Israel in its absurd and unprecedented war on the Gaza Strip.

The Egyptian writer and historical researcher Sameh Assaker said that Al-Houthi announcement in targeting the Israeli ships in the Red Sea, without specifying if the ships are civilian or military ones, that means it is likely to target the Israeli commercial ships and oil tankers, pointing out that the concurrence of this decision with a bombardment of Sana’a to Israeli targets in Elat is deemed an activation for Yemen front.

The Egyptian writer indicated in a tweet on X website monitored by “Yemen Eco” website to a number of risks which will be set up on the decision of Al-Houthi targeting the Israeli ships in Bab al-Mandab Strait among them hurting the international trade movement at Bab al-Mandab Strait and the Red Sea, the matter which might push towards war development and transfer it to the confrontation with maritime pieces and the anti-ships missiles.

Assaker continued that the costs of transporting commodities to Israeli markets will be risen as a result of raising its costs and insurance, especially the hesitation of some companies and others refusing the commercial transactions with Israel fearing targeting their ships in the Red Sea.

He added that the step taken by Al-Houthi announcing the targeting of the Israeli ships at Bab al-Mandab Strait and the Red Sea will constitute a significant dilemma and the depletion of the USA, if it decided its escalation against Yemen, as it’s the reality of its stance publically and practically with Israel. Assaker indicated to the first strikes carried out by Sana’a against Israeli targets in Elat south of the Red Sea was like feeling the pulse and testing the capacities of the Israeli army’s defenses, and also were deemed as messages to stop the war on Gaza and forbidding its expansion. Confirming the targeting of Israeli ships in the Red sea is a significant move that will not affect only on the Israeli economy but on the international trade movement and the oil tankers in the most important sea in the Middle east, as he described.

The Yemeni researcher in military affairs Major General Abdullah Amer the deputy director of the morale guidance affiliated with the ministry of defense in Sana’a government, confirmed that the decision which taken by Sana’a in closing Bab al-Mandab Strait before the Israeli ships, put all before an existing, powerful and effective equation, the mere media circulation on the Yemeni decision will affect international shipping traffic, directly or indirectly, it is expected that the first direct result of the decision is that companies will review the issue of their continued shipping towards Eilat, which may stop for a period, stressing that some of them have actually begun to review the maritime transportation procedures to Eilat, and naturally, it will raise the insurance rates.

Major general Abdullah Amer indicated in a blog post monitored by “Yemen Eco “that the ships are heading to Eilat began actually in taking other routs which are costly materialistic if not stopped passing in the Red Sea, in addition to the Israeli war pieces, clarifying that such a step only affects once it is announced, wondering, “What will the matter be like when the decision is now subject to practical implantation?”

He reassured that “The Israeli economy will sustain heavy losses due to the ships shifting their routes especially, that coming from Asia and the Gulf” and that will be forced to take the route of the Cape of Good, that means circling around the whole African continent completely, then reaching the Mediterranean Sea and from it to Haifa, and if it wanted arrival to Eilat, it will have an additional route through Suez Canal then Alakaba Gulf.”

And Amer said that” all will perceive the importance of this step in pressing not only on Israel but on Europe and the Arab countries as well, for heading towards a ceasefire,” clarifying that if there is a ceasefire, the Israelis will put a condition including ending of the Yemeni measures,” “we are before an equation which is becoming existent, powerful and effective.”

Bin Amer pointed out that Egypt in its war with Israel in 1973, closed Bab al-Mandab, in cooperation with Yemen, before the Israeli ships (heading from and to Eilat ), and during the first days for war, Israel insisted to conceal the damages, so as not to grant the other party an achievement, at the time its economy sustaining daily losses, to the extent that its factories were halted, and did not disclose any risk for the closing of Bab al-Mandab except during the negotiations for a ceasefire, and Israel itself did not put it, but the USA which was urging for ending the closure of Bab al-Mandab, and here Egypt felt that it had taken a significant step which had a role in subduing Israel to the extent that Tel Aviv stipulated the opening of Bab al-Mandab against lifting the siege on the second Egyptian army.

On the same context, activists mentioned that the international commerce movement will be affected negatively with Sana’a closure to Bab Al-Mandab before the Israeli ships, confirming that the decisions will change equations and maps of the region.

The Saudi activist, Hatim Alfakiah, indicated on a blog post X to international trade companies canceled its transactions with Israel fearing from bombarding its ships in the Red Sea, adding that the Insurance companies doubled its insurance rates on transferring the goods to and from Israel, the matter that will result an international movement making pressure on Israel to ceasefire on Gaza Strip. Also some countries out of them Russia warned the USA of going into direct war with Yemen, reaffirming that the decisions will change equations and maps of the region, according to his expression, earlier, the leader of Ansar Allah, Abdul Malik Al- Houthi, delivered a speech, yesterday Tuesday, during which he had announced that the Israeli ships that pass through Bab al-Mandab Strait in the Red Sea will be a target to Sana’a forces’ missiles, until the stop of Israeli war on Gaza Strip, which started after “ Alaqsa Typhoon operation launched by Hamas on the 7th of last October, against Israeli positions in the circumference of Gaza Strip.

After the speech of al-Houthi, the defense department (The Pentagon) opened the file of getting down an American spying drone, over the Yemeni space of regional waters in the Red Sea, with a missile launched by Sana’a forces, hinting in a military escalation in Yemen, where it said, in a blog on its official account post X, that “it reserved the right to respond at any place and at any time” the thing that observers deemed as an attempt of pressure on Sana’a to retreat from its decision of closing Bab al-Mandab Strait, before the Israeli ships. Sana’a forces announced yesterday Tuesday, the start of a new phase of targeting Israel and that represented in bombarding the Israeli ships in the Red Sea until the war stopped on Gaza, and it’s a practical response to the decision of the leader of Ansar Allah, Abdul Malik al-Houthi, preventing the passage of the Israeli ships through Bab al-Mandab Strait, announcing at the same time the execution of two military operations during 24 hours on Israeli sensitive targets at Eilat in the occupied Territories.

Major general Yahyia Sarai the official spokesman of Sana’a forces said in a televised statement followed up by “Yemen Eco “website that the Yemeni armed forces “confirm the start of taking practical measures to deal with Israeli ships in the Red Sea, and will not hesitate in targeting the Israeli ships starting this moment of announcing the statement, and will not stop till the war stopped on Gaza” as he said.
